POWELL JOBS, XQ, AND FOOD EDUCATION

Connecting dots for Powell Jobs and America, one post at a time.

When stars align, you see things.

Big dippers, little dippers, archers, crabs, lions, the whole scope of imagination is out there in the stars.

Closer to home the stars look like Powell Jobs and her commitment to better education, better schools.

Her husband, Steve Jobs, remade our view of computers; his wife is following the same path in education.

XQ is that path.

Will ‘next generation high schools’ make a difference?

Only if they include ‘next generation ideas.’

Students and teachers know about IQ, intelligence quotient, EQ, emotional quotient. Now XQ marks the spot.

Helping students connect with teachers, parents, and their community is the sort of empowering they need.

Once people understand their actions have consequences, their actions change.

In a group young enough to feel the consequences, but not so old that’s all they see, there’s fertile ground for change.

Add food education to the mix and watch it grow.

If kids find a new way to succeed through teachers motivated for their success, an audience will watch.

Baby Boomers, GenX, and Millennials will all watch and wish they had the same schools when they were young.

More important, grade school and middle school students watching the progress of XQ will make their own plans to attend.

This is when the tide turns: Kids who learn about soil science and farming seasons in grade school carry that knowledge forward.

Ms Jobs Emerson Collective is the ramrod for the work.

So why not push the work a little harder? I’ll make the introductions here on BoomerPDX.

Powell Jobs, meet Joel Salatin of Polyface Farms.

Mr. Salatin is like a moon controlling ocean tides in Virginia. He’s not far from one of your super schools.

From Emerson Collective:

Washington Leadership Academy
Washington, District of Columbia

A brand new charter high school in the heart of Washington, D.C., Washington Leadership Academy serves disenfranchised students from across the District. Using technology to leverage the power of teachers, WLA pushes the boundaries of tech in the school setting. Students program arduinos in the MakerSpace, visit foreign countries and historical times in virtual reality, learn from real-world professionals from the on-demand workforce across the globe, and will, eventually, experience holographic instruction. Rather than merely consumers, WLA students are creators of the technologies of the future. WLA is committed to open sourcing its methods, tools, curriculum and model so that students across the country and world can benefit from this Super School.

Like you, Mr. Salatin is an expert in reclaiming lost ideas and lost lands and turn them into sustainable concerns.

He’s been teaching farmers and ranchers for decades. He connects with kids in a way they understand.

Besides, if you have a motivated student body, why not include motivated nutrition for better results.

Eat healthy, think better, live the life you dream of. You have my permission to use that line.

Kids who learn the vital importance of good soil to create the foundation of our food system connect to a future of nutrition much different than the future portrayed on the Jetson’s cartoon where everything is instant.

That’s not a future we can believe in.

Powell Jobs and Joel Salatin make a formidable team for kids.

Name recognition alone makes them practitioners of Influencer Marketing.

However, there is another population segment that needs attention here in Oregon, and they’re getting it in federal court.

Ammon Bundy and six others stand trial for their actions at the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge.

These men, and thousands of sympathizers, want a voice in land use. Showing up with guns out is something education might help.

One thing they have in common is they look tough. Tough enough to farm? That’s what I’d like to see.

Imagine an educational effort helping farmers and ranchers change their ways and follow the Polyface Farm protocol. They might find help from other populations.

If they got a push from Powell Jobs it could take off.

Men and women reunited with the land they thought they knew so well opens the gate for human potential to stroll in.

That’s a walk we’ll all take eventually. Why not start on the right foot?

From Emerson Collective:

Our basic belief, as Emerson taught, is that we are doubly obligated: we must rely on ourselves and we must rely on each other. By helping individuals to achieve their dreams, we unleash the full force of the world’s most powerful resource: human potential.
