If anyone pays attention it ought to be the Secretary of Agriculture.

Where do you find yourself on food talk?

Eat and move on? Cook and consume?

Or maybe something with drama like the cooking show Chopped?

Thoughts about food, more than just sitting down to eat, or fast food on the run, is a growing issue.

Top athletes who depend on nutrition to stay on top, like Tom Brady, spell it out.

Performance based nutrition makes sense, but how is that possible in the long run?

This is where America’s most famous farmer gives answers.

Joel Salatin for Secretary of Agriculture?

Tradition and custom are hard habits to break, just ask Joe Camel.

Once something gets a hook in you, it’s hard to shake. The idea of your life depending on change makes it a little easier.

Food production and delivery is how the American diet reaches the grocery story.

Boiling water, or a microwave, is all you need to eat. Open a bag, warm up the contents, and there’s dinner.

From the end of the supply chain it’s simple, but the process is the problem.

The Secretary of Agriculture has a say in process.

How much influence does he wield?

Not enough if farmers go in the tank, the soil depletes and dies, and more people go hungry.

A national office as bully pulpit for agriculture would be eye opening.

The Department of Agriculture works these idea now, from farm to school for better student nutrition, to animal health.

Joel Salatin needs help getting his message out for better soil, better food. The man writes books. Movies show him in his element.

He recently met Prince Charles, England’s famous farmer. None of his efforts are enough, but they are promising.

Age and energy take their toll, but inspiring others to make a food stand helps.

Kids today with school gardens grow up with a better grasp on where it all starts.

That’s a beginning to depend on, young people working the land, improving soil, creating a new food system.

Isn’t that what you hope for in a future Secretary of Agriculture?

If the future is now, Joel Salatin is the right candidate.
