ADD ENTHUSIASM TODAY

Go ahead and add enthusiasm to your day.
Start from the beginning.
“But Master Blogger D, I don’t feel enthusiastic.”
Well, neither does anyone else, but they still show it.
Here’s how:

My Grandfather on my Mom’s side was a man’s man who did manly things like they were easy.
In other words, he was an Oregon logger who taught logging topics at his local community college, COCC on the rock.
He built a house, then dug out a basement under the house by hand.
In all he did, he added enthusiasm and solved problems like how to dig a huge basement under an existing house and get the dirt and rock outside.
Did he add enthusiasm to his day, or just find someplace to hide from Grandma?

Add Enthusiasm For The Kids

I watched a show on TV where Laura Dern was the mom of grown-up daughters.
She’s hanging laundry with one of them who said, “This is hard, but it’s easier for you because you loved doing everything.”
In classic mom style she said, “Not everything.”
But she did her job in a way the kids saw as love when they grew up.
Has anyone else done it like that?

I asked my logger Grandpa why so many loggers get portrayed as drunken fighters on a Saturday night.
“Because they drink and fight on Saturday nights. For some it’s a tradition. I was a married man with kids. That was my tradition with your Grandmother, not drinks and fighting.”
One night he stepped outside, slipped on ice, and fell. He laid out on the frozen pavement for half an hour before Grandma looked for him.
Knee replacement surgery came soon after.
Had told me his story while we were out for a walk. He showed off his new knee by doing one legged squats.
I couldn’t do one legged squats if I tried.
“My knee was ruined when I twisted it in the fall,” he said. “Now look at it, stronger than ever.”
He could still add enthusiasm in his eighties.

Don’t Mistake Enthusiasm For Anything Less

Try and be as excited for doing things as you are for not doing things.
See, not everything goes your way.
Shocking, I know, but don’t let your enthusiasm flag just because you didn’t get your way.
Am I telling you to fake it?

If faking it means cutting off the highest peaks and lowest valleys of the best and worst parts of the day?
Then fake it.
Things could be better, things could be worse, and you could be the reason things are just a little better and not quite as bad.
Add enthusiasm for just the right outcome.
What else are you doing today without enthusiasm?
