ALTERNATIVE MEDICINE MEDAL OF COURAGE FOR DAN PATRICK

I don’t know why, but my wife isn’t a fan of sports talk radio.

She says it’s all about men trying to sound angry enough to make their opinions seem to matter. I blame Jim Rome, one of my favorites over the years.

How often do we hop in the car and she says, “Quick, turn it to 750 The Fan. I want to hear the Dan Patrick Show.” He’s around my age and takes a more relaxed attitude.

Since it’s usually on in my car the first request, or not really a request but an air waves takeover, my honey automatically changes the station to OPB 91.5.

And I never complain. Ever. Never ever complain because OPB is a great station. It would be better if they broadcast the DP Show, but I can’t have it all at the same time. That’s about to change with Dan’s health revelations.

From the LA Times:

Patrick, who says he has probably taken 30 blood tests over the last seven years because of a misdiagnosis of Lyme disease, credits his wife’s persistence on him thinking outside the box on treatment options.

My wife is a naturopathic doctor; Dan is seeing a homeopathic doctor for PMR since he had the dreaded side effects of traditional therapy that included suicidal thoughts. So he made a change my own wife would give a standing O for.

“I’m just like anyone else, feeling lost and searching and hoping, and I finally got to the point where I have to start asking questions,” Patrick said. “Kind of funny how I’ve made a career out of asking questions, right? But for too long I choose to accept things and not question them. I’d be a fraud if I didn’t start questioning this whole thing now.

How often have I found the right answers to my own health questions? How often have you? I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention what I consider the biggest boost during cancer and post-cancer treatment.

My downward flounder changed when I decided I would find one last alternative medicine before giving in to oxy and liquid oxy. Call it weed, stoner logic, or complete and utter bullshit, but marijuana brownies of cancer patient grade strength cast a light and I found the corner to turn.

Should Dan promote alternative medicine? He is doing just that. Should he promote medical marijuana?

“I was just talking about this again with my wife. She said, ‘Maybe this is your legacy, talking about this, not just saying ‘en fuego’ on SportsCenter.’ I never thought of it that way until just now, but she might be right.”

Dear Dan Patrick, speaking for every guy who wished they listened to their wife before it got too late, she is right. You’re on the right track for this sports fan.

(PS: Ask your homeopathic doc about weed therapy.)
