BABY BOOMER ANTHEM UPDATE

Talkin’ ‘Bout Our Regeneration Baby Boomer Anthem.

generationLet’s get it straight from the start.

If you’re reading this you probably didn’t die before you got old.

I know, it’s a big surprise. Especially for you big party dogs.

By now you know to avoid white flour, white powder, and white lightning in excess.

You’ve learned what works and what doesn’t. If you’ve avoided court ordered re-hab by sixty, way to go.

The Who gave us a great baby boomer anthem. Now it needs help.

It’s still current for younger people if they dig classic rock.

Is it current enough for boomers?

What it means today?

People try to put us d-down
Just because we get around

If The Who’s idea of getting around is the same as we thought the first time we heard them sing it, they mean dating lots of women.

Talkin’ ’bout a new contagion?

What’s the concern with getting around today? The Mayo Clinic has an opinion.

Things they do look awful c-c-cold
I hope I die before I get old

No one starts out with the understanding years of experience brings.

We know about action and reaction, consequences for action or inaction.

A cold hearted decision for one might be a life saver for another.

Who needs a new baby boomer anthem?

If one song is all you need, would two be better?

It’s the same question asked of poets.

“Why did you write another poem?”

“To make a better one than the first.”

Why rewrite when you can renew?

Why don’t you all f-fade away
And don’t try to dig what we all s-s-say

Fade away? Buddy Holly said love is love, not fade away.

No one is fading away, at least not quietly.

Not when Timothy Leary planned on putting his suicide online.

The greatest fade away news came from General Douglas MacArthur during his farewell address to Congress.

“Old soldiers never die, they just fade away.”

He may have died, but he hasn’t faded away.

If Mac was alive today and still generaling the army he might look around the battlefield and sing:

“Talkin’ ’bout my big frustration.”

He was the man who wanted to expand the Korean War into China, similar to General Patton’s idea of rolling his tanks into Moscow at the end of WWII.

I’m not trying to cause a big s-s-sensation
I’m just talkin’ ’bout my g-g-g-generation

Roger is singing his baby boomer anthem to the choir.

We don’t want to cause a big sensation? Sure we don’t. Baby boomers have been sensational from the beginning.

Talkin’ ’bout that new gestation.

Now millennials are the biggest generation at play.

They outnumber boomers. I’m outnumbered. You’re outnumbered.

Talkin’ ’bout that realization.

This is my generation
This is my generation, baby

Every generation feels special. Some are more special. Some less.

Each has the responsibility of justifying their contributions. Why are they special?

Make a case for yours. Learn to understand why others feel special.

Talkin’ ’bout that conversation.
