HEART HEALTH STARTER SONG LIST

 heart health

It takes time to move from a broken heart to heart health status.

Luckily there’s a soundtrack for the occasion.

After spending one night in the hospital one week ago today, the first since fourth grade, I made a list up in my head.

It could use some additions in comments.

And a one, and a two, and a three, let’s go.

The BeeGees “How Can You Mend A Broken Heart”

And how can you mend a broken heart?
How can you stop the rain from falling down?
How can you stop the sun from shining?
What makes the world go round?
How can you mend this broken man?
How can a loser ever win?
Please help me mend my broken heart and let me live again

This was before their big hit Stayin’ Alive.

Bonnie Tyler “It’s A Heartache”

It’s a heartache
Nothing but a heartache
Hits you when it’s too late
Hits you when you’re down

She had another heart song too.

Pat Benatar “Heartbreaker”

You’re a heartbreaker
Dream maker, love taker
Don’t you mess around with me
You’re a heartbreaker
Dream maker, love taker
Don’t you mess around with me

Mess around and find out? I found out.

Elvis Pressly “Heartbreak Hotel”

Well, since my baby left me
Well, I found a new place to dwell
Well, it’s down at the end of Lonely Street
At Heartbreak Hotel
Where I’ll be–where I get so lonely, baby
Well, I’m so lonely
I get so lonely, I could die

Luckily I wasn’t lonely with nurse company every fifteen minutes.

Elton John “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart”

Don’t go breaking my heart
I couldn’t if I tried
Oh, honey if I get restless
Baby you’re not that kind

Don’t go breaking my heart
You take the weight off of me
Oh, honey when you knocked on my door
I gave you my key

The thing here is we don’t get to tell anyone to not break your heart, but it happens.

Rob Thomas “This Is How A Heart Breaks”

This is how a heart breaks
You take a hit now
You feel it break down
Make you stay while I wait
This is how a heart breaks

Don’t go breaking my heart? We covered this.

Billy Ray Cyrus “Achy Breaky Heart”

But don’t tell my heart my achy breaky heart
I just don’t think it’d understand
And if you tell my heart my achy breaky heart
He might blow up and kill this man

One the other hand, I get it.

Rush “Closer To The Heart”

And the men who hold high places
Must be the ones who start
To mold a new reality
Closer to the heart
Closer to the heart
The blacksmith and the artist
Reflect it in their art
They forge their creativity
Closer to the heart
Closer to the heart

I chose this song because I like dealing with things creatively. Lemons to lemonade.

Whitney Houston “Where Do Broken Hearts Go”

Where do broken hearts go?
Can they find their way home
Back to the open arms
Of a love that’s waiting there?
And if somebody loves you
Won’t they always love you?
I look in your eyes
And I know that you still care, for me

I called my wife to come pick me up after the release. I was only in the cardiac ward overnight but it seemed sooooo long.

Neil Young “Heart of Gold”

I want to live
I want to give
I’ve been a miner for a heart of gold
It’s these expressions
I never give
That keep me searching for a heart of gold

And I’m getting old
Keep me searching for a heart of gold
And I’m getting old

Neil’s getting old, I’m getting old, everybody getting old.

Heart Health On The Front Burner

While not exactly ‘life changing’ a day in the hospital showed more than expected.

I’m not tooting my horn about my heart health. That would be weird, but no surgery or meds is toot worthy. But I’m still not bragging about heart health.

The radio guys calling covid a hoax and a minor thing who drop dead from covid are my lesson.

They are a good group to learn from.

My lesson is to recognize things a little earlier than I did, which seems reasonable.

Stop smoking cigarettes? Okay.

Exercise? Got it.

Eat healthy? I can’t avoid it.

I’m already going three for three before the octopus pot showed up. I’ll continue after things rebound to normal.

And that’s the good news, working my way back to normal.

That’s been my goal for quite some time and it’s a little closer all the time.

Makes me feel like a song.

Have you got one for the list?
