LIFE CHANGES AND WE KEEP UP. DOES THAT SOUND LIKE YOU?

life changes

‘Life changes’ sound morbid.

When I hear those two words I think something bad must have happened.

“We’ve had life changing events,” sounds a little dramatic, like something big happened.

But why does it have to be a bad event? And why big?

This is a post to celebrate the small life changes, the things that happen behind the big news of the day.

Do you know what I’m talking about? The things no one notices, or cares about, but have a huge effect on the individual.

Start with new shoes, the pair you’ve been searching for in sports stores, outdoor stores, your closet.

And you find them after trying on forty pairs and driving clerks nuts in five stores.

The dream shoes, finally, on your feet, so you wear them all day the first day. You wear them out of the store you love them so much.

They are so perfect, even though they look like clown shoes with multi-colored soles.

You wear them so long right out of the box that your feet cramp and you get what might be a case of plantar fasciitis. Your foot is killing you, but in a weird reaction you feel sort of proud.

Only professional athletes get the plantar, so you’re on that bandwagon. And you’re wrong.

Who else gets it?

Active men and women between the ages of 40 and 70 are at the highest risk for developing plantar fasciitis. It’s also slightly more common in women than men. Women who are pregnant often experience bouts of plantar fasciitis, particularly during late pregnancy.

How do you get it?

Plantar fasciitis is most commonly caused by repetitive strain injury to the ligament of the sole of the foot. Such strain injury can be from excessive running or walking, inadequate foot gear, and jumping injury from landing.

Or new shoes worn too long out of the box? It hurts like hell, but who’s listening to that complaint?

“What did you expect?”

Life Changes 2

Moving forward often means building things for a better life for you and loved ones.

If that’s you, you’ve probably asked for help.

Help with a project, help with planning, help with plan execution.

When the plan execution part starts, it may take tools.

Tools in the right hands make a big difference. Sharing tool skills is an educational moment.

With that in mind, never hand a helper a hammer and offer to hold their first nail. What could go wrong? If depends on whose fingers get hammered first.

A drill is a different deal, a one man show. No need to hold a screw, right? Holding the pieces getting screwed together is more likely.

How often does the driller need help holding two pieces of wood together? When help is there, how often does the driller slip off the screw and stab the helper in the last knuckle of their left pointer finger?

Life changes come in all shapes and sizes. Who changes more after a bleeding finger stab, the driller or drillee? Asking for a new drill master.

Lively Changes 3

On a large scale, life changes come from outside influences.

Global warming, climate change, pollution, and the very air we breath, are all life changers.

Asthma, pollen, COPD, decreased lung capacity, can all contribute.

If we can’t breath without effort, what else goes wrong? If you know someone, then it’s no mystery.

If not, here’s a few problems:

Oxygen uncertainty, anxiety, sleep deprivation.

When the air is the main enemy, everything else takes second place.

Often, people solving the big problems are also solving their own problems. And at a personal level, nothing is small.

Standing up for a bad man? Big.

Believing the bullshit of a bad man manipulating what he calls the ‘under-educated?’ Big.

Being proud of ignorance? Not good.

I recently watched a science show examining the mysteries of deep space and the origins of galactic wall structures. It was new to me and a fascinating story. Bottom line is I believe in the science even if I can’t see it.

What about people who can’t understand anything that doesn’t fit into their narrow views?

The near future is not going to be friendly. In the long term, life changes will hit harder.

Expect to hear this more often: “I had no idea.”

Go ahead and get ready. What does ‘get ready’ mean to you?
