OREGON STOPS: FROM CLAUSEN OYSTER TO CRESWELL BAKERY

Oregon pure

The roads around here are not in drive-by country.

Oregon Stops make you pull over, or turn around and go back if you missed the turn.

Clausen Oyster is one such Oregon stop.

What makes Clausen’s a good stop? Oysters in every size I could imagine.

Even better?

Seafood Tower for Two

Moon Rock Oysters (12), 2 oyster shooters, 4 jumbo shrimp cocktail, Oregon pole and line caught albacore tuna poke with hot sauce, lemon, house made cocktail sauce, mignonette.

The oysters on the menu come from their farm along 101.

“If you’re driving north you’ll see our baskets on the left.”

Clausen Oysters is the largest oyster farm in the State of Oregon. Pacific Oysters are grown
on 600 leased acres in Coos Bay and harvested year-round.

Reading that made me think of the freshest oysters this side of Willapa Bay.

It’s an Oregon Stop that expands the territory of ‘farm to table.’

Oregon Stop In Creswell

Like Clausen Oyster, Creswell Bakery is worth turning around for.

It’s worth turning around for, getting lost, and taking an extra hour to back-track.

Following Oregon Stop rules, Creswell Bakery keeps production in-house.

It’s a bakery with scratch breads, beautiful rolls and buns, and meat pies. Not quite a Cornish pasty, but who knows where that beef comes from.

Have you ever wondered where the beef in your sandwich comes from? Creswell Bakery has the answer:

All of the beef at Creswell Bakery comes from our very own farm just 3 miles down the road. Creswell Bakery Farms is a family owned, generational farm that was started in 1943. We raise a heritage breed Dexter Cattle that is focused on quality meat instead of size. Our rotationally grazed cows are raised in an organic style, with no antibiotics, and are entirely grass fed. Order a roast beef sandwich, warm meat pie, or buy some ground beef from the freezer to take home and enjoy later.

The beef operation reminds me of Joel Salatin in Virginia.

This Oregon Stop bakes it up and roasts their homegrown meats for a perfect combination.
