POWER COUPLE OF THE LAST NFL GAME OF THE YEAR

Power Couple? You and who you’re with.
But there are others of note, especially today.
What day? Super Bowl Day, or the last time my wife says, “Is there a game on, a big game, a REALLY BIG GAME,” dripping with fake enthusiasm.
My answer (with authentic hype-man energy): “They’re all big, honey. It’s the N-F-L, the top, the best of the best, the last remaining football players from Pop Warner, high school, and college.”
“Cookie Gilchrist didn’t go to college.”
She’s a football fan and a fashion fan. She knows a power couple when she sees one. And Cookie.

Over the last decade of Super Bowls there’s been one power couple.
Tom Brady and his now ex-wife the former Mrs. Brady.
She wasn’t a very good fan when she said, “My husband can’t win all by himself,” or something like it after a big loss.
The quote:

Good call, Gizz.
I was never a fan of the two of them as a power couple, not when Tom dressed in ‘fashion’ for her events.
He looked like a Ken doll with the wrong Barbie.

The Power Couple Of The 2024 Super Bowl?

This is my power couple pick.
One of them has a wife in a swimsuit this week, the other a girlfriend flying in from Japan.
How do I know this? I’m supposed to know this. If you’re a football fan, you already know this.
Do we need to know anything about their women?
All I want to know is that they don’t try and over-shadow my power couple.

But strange things happening during Super Bowl Week have a long, long, shelf life.

A few hours before his arrest, Robinson was honored with the Bart Starr Award by the religious group Athletes in Action. Balloting is conducted among NFL players to select the person who displays “high moral character.”

Arrested the night before the Super Bowl?

Police said Robinson was arrested at 9 p.m. Saturday on Biscayne Boulevard, a major street frequented by prostitutes and drug dealers. He was driving alone in a rented car when he offered an undercover officer $40 for oral sex, said police spokesman Angel Calzadilla.

How does that even happen? But it did, and to make it worse:

He apologized to his family, his teammates and the entire organization after causing such a shocking distraction the night before the Falcons appeared in the NFL title game for the first time in their 33-year history.
The Falcons lost 34-19 to the Denver Broncos, with Robinson burned on the game’s biggest play — an 80-yard TD pass to Rod Smith.

That’s two bad nights in a row for one man. He returned the Bart Starr Award.

How To Football Fan During A Walk In The Park The Day Before Super Bowl Sunday

C: What time does the game start?
Me: About a week ago, that’s when the team’s get down to winning, that’s when the distractions end.
C: I mean tomorrow.
Me: It starts the moment you wake up. Start by running through the channels for highlights of every Super Bowl played, then the interviews over the week of everyone. Do you have a favorite Super Bowl memory? Dust them off.
C: I don’t.
Me: Then try this on for size. The Kansas City Chiefs were the first Super Bowl team out of the old AFL, the American Football League, which was the new start-up to the long running National Football League.
They started out as the Dallas Texans the same year the Dallas Cowboys started, 1960, then moved in 1963.

They lost the first Super Bowl, but came back and won the fourth.
Now they’re on the verge of winning back to back titles with the same guys.
C: And Taylor Swift. You want them to win because of Taylor Swift.
Me: What I know about Taylor Swift the football fan is what I learned from going to my nieces’ softball games when they were kids. They cheered for each other the same way Taylor Swift cheers her team. She knows how to be a good fan.
Most of the news of NFL fans is about drunks swinging on each other in the stands, then women falling over, and everyone getting tossed.
I know all I need to know about that power couple I need to know, and they know the ropes.
C: Okay then.
Me: Otherwise the game starts at 3:30. Bring some sparkle.
