Tigard Tapphoria is holding a Fund Raiser for Tigard Police Officer Matthew Barbee.

This is tomorrow night, Wednesday, 1/31/18.

Besides being a good cause, there’s more connections between Tigard Tapphoria and Tigard than beer, food, and good company.

Officer Barbee, an officer for 11 years, sustained head and neck trauma after he was rear-ended Dec. 14 while off duty and waiting inside his parked car for roadside assistance along U.S. 26 in Hillsboro.

In what sounds like a freak accident, Matthew Barbee did what everyone does when you have a car question on a fast road: pull over before something blows and you go careening into traffic.

The tragedy of that night, after doing the right thing, will last a lifetime for Officer Barbee and his family and friends. Joining Tigard Tapphoria for his fundraiser is a reminder of the sort of community he severed.

The memory of a few hours dedicated to a husband and father will also last a lifetime for his wife and kids.

We decided to join forces with other Local Business in Tigard and the surrounding area to help with Fundraising events for Officer Barbee and his family.

From katu.com:

Barbee’s wife, Sherrie, said she couldn’t ask for a better husband.
“Matt is one of the most kind-hearted people I know,” Sherrie said. “We have three wonderful children. He’s a great father. He’s a teacher to them. He’s always teaching them new things. He loves people. He loves to socialize. He loves to give back to the community.”
Sherrie said she and Matt have been married for 19 years.
“He would give you the shirt off of his back. He loves animals. We have a farm. He just recently brought home five pigs despite me asking him to only bring home two,” Sherrie said. “He’s a great man.”

From pamplinmedia.com:
“Hering said support for the 39-year-old officer — who lives in the Mist area with his wife Sherrie and the couple’s three children — has been intense among fellow officers.
“We’ve had volunteers continually have nightshifts, watching over Matt,” Hering said. “It’s been a battle but everyone’s staying positive.”
At the same time, an online support campaign for Barbee and his family at has raised $35,000 (with another $8,000 donated privately) in a goal to reach $50,000, said Hering.
Meanwhile, from 6 to 9 p.m. on Jan. 31, Tapphoria, a Tigard growler house and pub, will host a fundraiser for Barbee with 100 percent of sales from two special Hop Valley Brewing kegs benefiting those efforts.
In addition, a silent auction will be held with items donated by local merchants.”

Tigard Tapphoria is one of those places to build memories.
