TRAVEL BOUNDARIES? STOP BEFORE YOU FALL OFF THE EDGE

travel boundaries

Travel boundaries means hit the brakes before you drive into the ocean.

This isn’t Kansas where driving off the road means plowing a wheat field.

Over here you’ll get wet if you make that mistake, so keep an eye out for an ocean.

The Great River of the West will dampen the day, too.

Avoid that mishap by using a bridge.

There’s a nice bridge right here. It doesn’t look like much on a map, but it’s a big one.

Travel boundaries recommend caution on these two lanes over big water.

Here it is.

A river that starts in Canada on one side, the strangely named ocean on the other.

The Pacific is a strange name?

pa·cif·ic/pəˈsifik

peaceful in character or intent.

On the other side of the hill a river flows into a bay.

Much calmer and pacific.

A look to the south shows Saddle Mountain travel boundaries

travel boundaries

It might look like Saddleback Mountain in Arizona, except for the greenery.

Set your own travel boundaries and be prepared.

Rain gear? It is Oregon.

Binoculars? There’s a whale out there with your name on it. Maybe a sturgeon.

Full tank of gas?

Of the roads that take you to a destination, none of them include side shows of fear and questions like, “Maybe we should turn around.”

An Oregon drive doesn’t take you through the same places as Easy Rider.

Travel boundaries don’t include running for your life.

Plan ahead.

Three ways to find Astoria from Portland, Oregon:

Take 26 straight to the coast and turn right.

Take 30 all the way down the Columbia River.

Or, take 26 to the Jewel/Mist junction. It’s a left turn that goes around and under the road to a fork that turns into 202.

This way brings you along a delta that looks like something out of Louisiana minus the gators, snakes, and folks who enjoy living among them.

Look up above the tree line as you approach town. No, it’s not a missile or a rocket.

What is it? Stay tuned.

Where’s the dragon?
