WHEN FOREVER YOUNG GOT OLD

Bob Dylan Knows The Drill

dylan

Few poems and song lyrics speak to the baby boomer generation better than Dylan.

People listened to his early work and it changed their lives.

Why should it stop? Because his later work doesn’t compare to the early days?

If that’s the best you’ve got, spin the old vinyl again. Listening to Dylan after time away opens a new door.

Which generation is more associated with youth than boomers?

How did it get that way? Forever Young has answers.

May God bless and keep you always
May your wishes all come true

Whatever faith you follow or practice, hang onto it. The winds of change blow hard in a long life. Keep your grip.

Your wishes may come true, or may not, but as long as you work to make them real, your dream lives.

May you always do for others
And let others do for you

The times they are a changing, brothers and sisters, and one of the changes is standing up to help out. Whether it’s a kid, grandkids, or spouse, let them know what it’s like having someone like you to lean on.

In moments of despair and indecision, ask for help. It’s okay to show you’re vulnerable, just learn from it.

May you build a ladder to the stars
And climb on every rung
May you stay forever young

Your reach may exceed your grasp, but staying strong means you’ll be ready if the time comes to act.

No one’s saying a word about Stairway To Heaven, but you know Led Zeppelin heard these lines.

May you grow up to be righteous
May you grow up to be true

Be righteous and true, but don’t go on and on about it. Know you are right and true and let that be enough.

If the choice is either be right or be happy, which one helps those around you?

May you always know the truth
And see the lights surrounding you

More than one friend over time has gone dark, as in they checked out to live in their own world.

Share your truth in a way that helps, not hinders. Leave the ‘I told you so’ moments to someone else.

May you always be courageous
Stand upright and be strong
May you stay forever young

If you have strength in your convictions you’ll be traveling a road a lot less traveled.

Instead of moods that blow in the wind, stay on track and follow through on your promises.

May your hands always be busy
May your feet always be swift

Today’s boomers know the value of movement, of activity. Once you stop doing something, you may start again, but probably won’t.

Make the time you need for the joy of dance, of singing a song.

When you’re faced with the question of ‘what’s next’ go out for a walk while you thing about it.

May you have a strong foundation
When the winds of changes shift

What seems extraordinary today will seem ordinary soon enough.

Like the online world where no one could have guessed the benefits, the near future will have even more surprises.

May your heart always be joyful
And may your song always be sung

Through experiences good and bad, find the tools to make life more meaningful. A better you means better people around you.

What is your song?

May you stay forever young
Forever young, forever young
May you stay forever young.

Call it a state of mind, arrested development, or just refusing to follow a once glowing path into darkness, it’s your choice.

At the end of the day we all need to accept who we once were, and who we’ve become.

Be that person. Be forever young.

Sing it with Dylan.
