LADY GAGA RECONNECTS ROOTS

Did Tony Bennett win a Nobel Prize?

It’s fair to call Lady Gaga the Prince of her generation.

She covers so many eras, does everything so well.

Both look good in purple.

But Prince never embraced Tony Bennett, and Tony looks a ripe purple.

Point for Gaga.

All she’s done is give Tony the sort of inter-generational pull you can’t fake in a studio.

She’s got that power; Tony’s got those roots that stretch to the forties. Together they fit cheek to cheek.

This mega-star shines on the only living link to Frank and the world is cool.

She and Tony are perfect. Anyone and Tony are perfect. Let’s go ahead and move on.

Lady Gaga and Bob Dylan?

Bob Dylan stands ready to teach Gaga’s generation a life lesson.

You don’t win the Literature Prize in the Nobel Awards for singing. Or playing the harmonica.

Until now.

Gaga needs to tap into that Dylan energy, teach him to smile again.

Look at the old troubadour. Even a Taylor Swift breakup song couldn’t change that sour puss.

But Gaga could.

She’s a fighter. Who better to light up the greatest protest singer in history?

If people take to the streets, why not have a guide?

Dylan could guide by himself, but Gaga brings it all together.

She’s only thirty, and like Dylan, started with a different name.

Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta from Manhattan needs to embrace Robert Zimmerman from Hibbing, Minnesota.

Baby boomers need to see these two together. Tony Bennett is our parents’ age. We need Gaga with one of our own. Dylan is it.

Instead of playing the big shows, the Dylan/Gaga tour would open in smaller rooms in smaller cities.

Give an unexpected shot of wonder to people asking, “Now what?”

Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Nobel Prize for Literature.

Dylan pulled a load.

Not that Lady Gaga hasn’t won her share of gear.

Together they could redefine what it means to feel.

Tony Bennett and Gaga share more than music.

Their Italian roots are deeper, their affection warmer, and Tony’s career ups and downs an example of staying true to his music.

Now give Dylan a boost.

Dear Lady Gaga, we want to hear you sing Lay Lady Lay with Bob.

He needs you.

I can so hear that! Would be awesome!

Wouldn’t it be nice if Lady Gaga is the farmer that reconnects broken roots.

That’s one of the goals of Boomerpdx, throwing a net out for people searching for their roots.

A trip to North Carolina felt like a roots reunion in Asheville until I looked at the baggage in the region. Not my roots.

A trip to England might have been a roots trip, but on reflection it was more my wife’s roots.

At the end of the day I’d say my roots are in the small coastal town of North Bend, a mythical journey through rain and wind. Bob Dylan and Lady Gaga singing Don’t Think Twice It’s Alright would be nice. Nobel Prize worthy, wouldn’t you say? From azlyrics.com:

Well, it ain’t no use to sit and wonder why, babe
Even you don’t know by now
And it ain’t no use to sit and wonder why, babe
      It’ll never do somehow

When your rooster crows at the break of dawn
Look out your window, and I’ll be gone
      You’re the reason I’m a-traveling on
But don’t think twice, it’s all right.

And it ain’t no use in turning on your light, babe
      The light I never knowed
And it ain’t no use in turning on your light, babe
I’m on the dark side of the road

But I wish there was somethin’ you would do or say
To try and make me change my mind and stay
But we never did too much talking anyway
But don’t think twice, it’s all right.

So it ain’t no use in calling out my name, gal
      Like you never done before
And it ain’t no use in calling out my name, gal
I can’t hear you any more

I’m a-thinking and a-wonderin’ walking down the road
I once loved a woman, a child I am told
I gave her my heart but she wanted my soul
But don’t think twice, it’s all right.

      So long honey, baby
      Where I’m bound, I can’t tell
Goodbye’s too good a word, babe
So I’ll just say fare thee well

      I ain’t a-saying you treated me unkind
You could have done better but I don’t mind
You just kinda wasted my precious time
But don’t think twice, it’s all right.
