HEALTH REMINDER: USE YOUR HEAD

health reminder

This health reminder comes with a little band-aide. It’s the white spot on the right.

“You need to get that mole checked out.”

“It’s fine.”

“Just to be sure, get it checked out.”

I used my head and got it checked out.

What’s the big deal with keeping up with good health practices?

Some annoying mole is not big deal. There it is. “Ha” to you little mole.

This was before the covid pandemic, before health jumped to the forefront and everyone became infectious disease experts.

I’m no expert, just another guy listening to reports about hospitalizations and deaths like it happens all the time.

Not that I’ve become numb to the news, but my big take away is wear a mask and get vaccinated.

One more time: Get vaccinated and wear a mask. Why? Because other people depend on the available healthcare system besides the anti-mask, anti-vaxx patients who show up sicker than dogs.

Because of the covid surge overwhelming doctors, nurses, techs, admissions, parking lots, families, and entire communities, other patients in need are being shut out.

Even the insignificant mole on the side of my face would have been shut out after being ignored for so long.

So I got it checked out.

No big deal, until . . .

When Patients Make Mistakes

The mole was nothing to worry about. That was my opinion.

Like covid deniers, I denied the significance of some small spot.

Do you know who didn’t deny it? The skin doctor and the surgeon.

Hey man, what’s the big deal? Cancer? On my face? This face?

The answer was yes, cancer on my face, of all places.

So I did the responsible thing and made an appointment for treatment, and oh what a treatment.

My friendly little mole turned out to be a cancer scout searching for a victim and I was it. It stopped being friendly and small and turned into “You want to kill me, you little fucker? Not this time.”

The medical staff all had the same take: Not this time. And they had the tools and gauze for the job.

And they all wore masks. That’s what caring people do when they start sawing things open. It’s also what caring people do when real infectious disease experts say masks make a difference with covid.

Go ahead and play doctor. Wear a mask and a white lab coat.

Be A Difference Maker With A Health Reminder

From a small mole, to getting worked on, to walking out with this patch, I caught things before they got out of hand.

More accurately, my wife did the catching, which is why I can’t understand how so many guys get away with being jackasses and I don’t.

I could have argued about this procedure until my face rotted off and I dropped dead, but that’s no way to be.

“I’ve got to look at you,” she says.

“Yeah? How do you like me now?”

Things worked out in the long run, which isn’t always the case. Who doesn’t want to avoid a killer, a dangerous disease that starts with a small mole?

What good wife wouldn’t push her old man to take care of himself?

What husband could withstand the non-stop love from a good wife about getting vaccinated and wearing a mask?

If you’re a good wife, make the call; if you’re a good husband, listen to your old lady.

Take it from me, no one wants to see the big man fall by ignorance. If that happens you’ll be remembered as a big stupid man, not a loving husband and father and good citizen.

Final health reminder: Ladies, the virus is in your court. Let’s make this happen.
