MOTHERS DAY STACK: ADD AN ANNIVERSARY AND NEW CUP

Mothers Day some years includes a wedding anniversary.

But not every year.

It’s always close on the calendar, real close.

When it’s the deuce, and on a Sunday, it feels like a home run, and the important thing is touching all of the bases and sliding in home.

My mom pretended Mothers Day wasn’t important.

When they say that, it’s important that you never believe it.

Remember when your kids thought they figured out Christmas? Santa isn’t real, they said. What did you do?

We said, “If you don’t believe in Santa Claus, then we don’t get presents.”

No one tries to figure out Mothers Day and break the news, if they’re smart.

What happens if you don’t believe in Mothers Day?

Nothing good will ever come from that.

Anniversaries Are Different? No

If you have a spouse that you’re proud of, you’ll get this:

I gave my partner the trophy she deserves, Wife Time of a Lifetime. It was a statue of Nike, Goddess of Victory.

What she did next made me even more proud: She put it up high, higher, then it disappeared.

She knows where it is, I don’t ask. Call it good husbanding.

When days leak into one another, then weeks, months, the important deal is hitting the highlights.

Mothers Day is more than a highlight; adding an anniversary turns into something close to Birthday Week.
