WRITERS’ BUNDLE: WHAT TO LEAVE OUT

A writers’ bundle joins other bundles in saving time and money.
Time and money is what you spend writing, so why not bundle.
Here’s a pencil, some paper, and a desk.
All set? What else do you need?

Writers’ Bundle #1

You read Jack London, bought the big pencil used in first grade, sharpened it with a knife, and held it in your fist while putting words on brown paper.
And you’re standing at the rail of a ship sailing for Alaska.
You are wild and you hear the call to write.
This bundle comes with a warm jacket, a pint of whiskey, and shoes to navigate sea routes, land routes, and stay dry.
The extra value of Writer’s Bundle #1 is a short lesson on how to build a fire.

Bundle #2

You won a writing award in high school, a red bowling pin for a one act play based on Romeo and Juliet.
It was an easy ‘He said, She said’ format but instead of human’s they were frogs speaking in froggy voices.
Then you read about Tom Wolfe and decide writing is easier than you initially thought.
Write an outline, take notes, screw around and forget to write. Then send in the notes as a completed manuscript and presto, New Journalism.
Nothing to it, right?
Added bonus: Bundle #2 includes a white suit.

The White Suit Writers’ Bundle

Why not dress up and write?
Wear a cape, a goofy hat, and sunglasses.
The white suit guys took a break after Saturday Night Fever.

It’s been long enough, go ahead and suit up today.
No one will mistake you for a disco king.
If you don’t write, no one will mistake you for a writer.
No one will mistake you if you write a blog either, but here we are.

Writers’ Discipline Bundle #3

If you don’t keep at writing, things will happen, bad things.
You don’t want visitors coming to give you motivation.
You’re self-motivated, not shackled to your chair.
But if shackles is what it takes, bring out the chains.

No, you should be writing.
From idea, to outline, to research notes, get it going.
The writer in you says, “I am, I will, I know.”
It also says, “What time’s the game on? Yes, let’s take a drive. Let me help you make the bed.”
What the writer in you should say? “Where’s my chisel.”

Pick an image when you settle in for a writing spell.
Know your topic, know your story, and know why it’s important to you.
Then grab your first grader’s pencil in your fist, hold your paper down, and pull with all you’ve got.

Moses was a writer.
Ben Hur was a writer.
Important people are always writers, is what I say.
What I don’t say? All writers are important people. Why?
They already know it and prove it every time they write something to the end.
THE END
Then they start again.
Who’s with me?
