AUTHORITY FIGURES? KEEP LOOKING

AUTHORITY FIGURES

Authority figures come in all shapes and sizes.

The strangest are those who don’t know their role.

Do you know who looks up to you?

You should.

Who do you look up to?

In high school I saw guys showing who’s the boss.

The talked the talk and walked the walk.

Then they walked into the wrestling room and got their butts kicked.

Did it change them? It should, but only in the room.

No one else knew the difference.

It was an early lesson in appearances.

People are not always how they seem until you see them in different situations.

Look for those who rise to the occasion.

Rise To The Occasion?

AUTHORITY FIGURES

Chances are good that you will never meet a world leader in person.

I’m sixty-eight and the biggest leader I’ve met is the Portland mayor a few years back while he walked the Rose Festival Parade.

I also met Bill Shonely at an Oregon Sports Hall of Fame dinner at the MAC.

Was I impressed? Disappointed? Nope. Sure they were authority figures, just not the kind who affect me.

More like celebrities instead of beacons of hope.

My disappointment is reserved for public figures who openly deceive audiences who don’t know any better.

If you’re surprised that people fall for the lowest bullshit repeated over and over, this is your ‘heads-up’ moment:

They do fall for the lowest. And they love it.

I know you don’t. Why? Because you’re reading my blog.

First of all, you know how to read.

Second: You found your way here through the world wide web of the internet.

Did I say thank you?

Thanks to you all, thank you Randy.

I feel confident that my reading audience is better equipped to spot false authority figures.

While we encourage others to do their best, too often we forget about ourselves.

But not so much when you write a blog like boomerpdx.

This blog is powered by the will to keep people connected.

Connected to what?

Memories, families, communities.

Connected to friends, teams, songs, novels.

Connected to metal, weight, fitness.

Browse this blog and you may find yourself as excited as the spam-bots who leave wonderful comments.

According to them I’m the best writer since the alphabet was invented.

The most engaging writer this side of Homer.

I’ll lift that weight.

That’s me being my own hype-man.

Better Truths

What happens when you’re doing your best one moment, and the next you learn that you’ve been doing it wrong all along and need to change now.

RIGHT NOW!

Those are either the words of an authority figure, or words from a fear monger.

I will assume you know the difference, and I’d be wrong.

Who doesn’t want broken things fixed, especially when they all land on you?

And you know it all lands on you because a former reality TV star told you so.

Maybe it’s just me, but my authority figures are not former reality TV stars, current stars, or media folks. Why?

If your job is sitting in front of a TV camera, you need things to say.

If you want to keep your job sitting in front of a TV camera, you’ll say whatever you’re told to say.

The audience demands it; the ratings prove it.

The big talkers on FOX NEWS took hit in the movie Bombshell.

It was considered a financial flop, but had great acting.

Some of the reviews and complaints said the story didn’t go far enough.

As if portraying three smart, ambitious, women encouraged to take a knee in front of their boss to ‘show loyalty’ didn’t go far enough.

What did the men do to show their loyalty?

Or would that be going too far for Tucker?

That’s the flopper part of the story Bombshell skipped.
