CHANGING TIMES IN SEPTEMBER

CHANGING TIMES

Changing times are one thing: Fall back, or spring forward.

Okay, two things.

But the month of September is my big change month since first grade and every grade after.

For everything:

Back to school every September from first grade through twelfth; from freshman year college to senior year.

I even joined the army in September to reflect the school year. I got discharged in Fort Dix New Jersey one week, in class at University of Oregon the next.

Besides, who doesn’t welcome the hot September days with cool nights?

Blog fans of boomerpdx get with the changing times by finding a holiday post: Portland Christmas Seizure.

If the idea of a holiday trip to the city creeps you out, start out with small steps.

Cruise Broadway for a few blocks before getting something to eat. Where to eat?

Nothing says Christmas on a late November Saturday night more than Persian House.

Why Persian House? It’s a taste treat to make you forget about the turkey for a few hours.

Make a sandwich when you get back home for a reminder.

Persian House? From Facebook:

IT’S A WRAP!

Thank you #Portland for the past 30 years! The past weeks were a true testament of your support. We are grateful to have heard so many of your stories about how our restaurant affected your lives in some shape or form. We couldn’t have wished for a better way to close shop than today.

No more Persian House? (The original post was from 2015, which shows the staying power of what happens in online searches.)

The restaurant DarSalam has its own staying power.

The Times They Are A Changin

CHANGING TIMES

Does Bob Dylan agree?

Come gather ’round people
Wherever you roam
And admit that the waters
Around you have grown
And accept it that soon
You’ll be drenched to the bone
If your time to you is worth savin’
And you better start swimmin’
Or you’ll sink like a stone
For the times they are a-changin’

The line it is drawn
The curse it is cast
The slow one now
Will later be fast
As the present now
Will later be past
The order is rapidly fadin’
And the first one now
Will later be last
For the times they are a-changin’

‘If You Live Long Enough’ For Changing Times

CHANGING TIMES

I’m more surprised than anyone at which posts land on the boomerpdx ‘Most Read’ list.

In terms of creative writing I could take the top three every day and combine topics for a sure SEO winner.

Not saying it’s a bad idea, but not one for me.

If I did, I’d have to include a post from 2013 about the novel and movie Vision Quest.

It’s currently riding high in the #2 slot of Today’s Top Ten of changing times.

In the end, Terry Davis reminds us it’s all about the quest, the journey toward goals, that matters most.

I’ll take it further:  once you feel the pull of any quest, you sense it everywhere. It’s about winning, yes, but more about what it takes to win the way you want to win.

How do you want to win?

The important thing is to realize the choices. What you do with the choices after that tells who you are.

Knowing who you are and living up to it keeps you on the right quest. Others see your example and how it might help them.

That’s what anyone who cares wants for others.

Go ahead and tell someone, “You’re better than you think,” and you’ll be right.

Tell ’em you heard it at boomerpdx.com.

The People have spoken.
