NAMING RIGHTS FOR A BLOG THE SAME AS NFL AND NBA VENUES?

naming rights

Naming Rights in the NFL and NBA are multimillion dollar propositions. Hundreds of millions of dollars extend it over a time frame of decades.

Sounds like Big Business? It is.

From auto makers like Mercedes Benz to banks to insurance groups and telecoms, stadiums and areas collect big money so their names show up on overhead shots from the Goodyear Blimp.

Is this a problem downstream, like creating more expensive services due to the money spent on naming rights?

In some corner office with an expansive view of their master of the universe domain, some advertising shaman balances the benefit to cost ratio of naming rights.

How would such analysis work for a blog like BoomerPdx?

It would need to start with a new name.

The new name should reflect on what boomerpdx is all about.

Based on traffic and attention, boomer added to Portland isn’t a huge draw. But that was the original idea, after all I am a baby boomer living in a Portland zip code.

First it was a business decision.

Since boomers have hoarded all the money, calling something ‘Boomer’ would loosen the purse strings in support.

But a funny thing happened between the start-up and now. Analytics show actual boomers a small part of the audience.

Millennials Carry That Load

After enough head scratching I came to the conclusion that attendance in my daily posting routine is based on who is online.

Look at the death grip millennials have on their phone, then listen to boomers ask, “Have you seen my phone?”

Millennials always know where their phone is. They never forget them in a pants pocket in the wash pile of laundry. And if they did, they’d never do it twice.

No millennial is making the Hall of Shame by losing their phone in a Paris Metro turnstile mishap, either.

Never. Going. To. Happen.

Naming Rights Based On Most Read Post

The most read post on this page is about the statue of David and his bits and pieces.

How would that work out?

‘AT&T Presents David’s Dick’ has a nice ring.

But my name is David so there might be unrealistic expectations, as usual, on the dick part.

No one’s self esteem needs reminders.

The second most read work is a behavioral piece on naked guys in a gym locker room.

It’s less about show and tell and more about how to get in and out as fast as possible.

‘Quicken Loans Presents Getting Dressed?’

Fast, easy, and without additional emotional scars.

Third in line is a book review of hard drugs, the cartel that delivers them to the door, and why it’s better to interview people in jail instead of on the street.

‘Moda Presents The Needle And The Damage Done?’

No one better tell Neil Young.

Money Talks, Boomerpdx Walks

Wouldn’t a serious naming rights effort target the money men and women with spare change in the billions of dollars?

The usual suspects:

Elon Musk – $202.1 billion

Tesla has become the world’s most valuable automaker with a market capitalization of $800 billion in October 2021.

The Beatles ‘Baby You Can Drive My Car’ was ahead of its time.

Jeff Bezos – $191 .7 billion

His position remains the same even after divorcing his wife MacKenzie in 2019 and transferring a quarter of his stake in Amazon to her.

Good to know he’s keeping an eye on things.

Bernard Arnault & Family – $174.8 billion

French businessman and Europe’s richest man Bernard Arnault earned the $100 billion fortune last year in December.

With December coming up, hope is everywhere.

Bill Gates – $131 billion

Bill Gates entered the $100 billion club last year in April when Microsoft share price surged post-earnings.

These guys and their special months of entering the $100 billion club.

Naming Rights Question

Would it be better to recruit: an individual, or a corporation?
