REASSURING NORMAL IN ALL THE MEDIA NOISE

reassuring normal

Reassuring normal, or a sense of normal, is a parental duty to children. Keep them calm during turmoil so mom and dad can find a way out of their turbulence.

Keep the little grinders on a regular schedule: breakfast time, clean-up time, story time, lunch time, nap time, exercise time, dinner time, reading time, bed time. That’s what normal looks like in some households.

In others?

If we keep up on current events, and it’s important to keep up unless you want your adult children to call names and say you are old and disconnected; if we keep up, then we hear and see local, national, and international opinions on current events.

If you grew up on a normal schedule, you seek voices of authority in the media jungle, people who know about reassuring normal.

I see it on the faces looking out of news broadcasts.

This is noise:

Since we’re all adults here, do we really need any help in reassuring normal?

This is noise:

Men on the way up say and do things that the men they admire do and say.

For them it’s part of the job. It isn’t butt-kissing, sucking-up; it’s learning to be an ingratiating angry man who is accepted because of their ugliness, not in spite of their ugliness.

Reassuring normal starts at the top. We need more normal more than ever. If we don’t get more normal, then our expectations lower.

This is normal:

I was born during Ike’s time in office, a boomer from the mid-fifties.

He was a man who knew how to show up for a photo-op. After guiding America to Victory in Europe during WWII, he cooled off then became President of America.

One grand act toward the end of his second term he told the biggest secret he knew. He broke ranks and warned us about the military/industrial complex. Who would know better than Ike?

This was no conspiracy theory or right wing notion, just the observations of a fair man.

This is noise:

When we need someone to commit to reassuring normal, this is the man at the top, the man whose demeanor and behavior gets picked up downstream. Now we’ve got folks demonstrating how well they’re learning the lessons.

This is the man who directs the might of America, and in an emergency delegates to this guy:

However the corona virus plays out, it is first a medical issue. Would having a medical person tell you how things are going be more reassuring than this guy?

How about this guy instead. This is Jerome Adams, Surgeon General of the United States of America. Doesn’t he have time for the corona virus?

Calling Dr. Adams, STAT.
